An annual award in the amount of ,000 will be presented to one (1) individual who has demonstrated a commitment to the science of osteopathic principles and practice, an active interest in clinical or basic science research pertaining to osteopathic medicine and manipulative treatment, and outstanding academic achievement and noteworthy accomplishments in research. He has been a visiting professor and postgraduate lecturer for the University of Arizona College of Medicine Integrative Medicine Fellowship Program in Tucson, Arizona.
To foster interdisciplinary research collaboration and to support efforts to secure funding for such collaborations, the VCOM Research Department has established several strategic initiatives focused on research in areas concurrent with our overall College mission and goals.
The Research Department’s community health initiatives are closely matched with VCOM’s overall mission: for our student doctors to be community-focused and to engage in research that improves the health of underserved populations.
: There are many factors contributing to the prevailing health disparities and health issues in Appalachia, and there is a growing recognition that traditional research methods have not been successful in eliminating the disparities.
VCOM’s initiative for a more community-engaged research approach encourages our researchers to work together with community groups and members to assess local health issues as well as design, implement and evaluate culturally appropriate interventions designed to increase quality of life and well-being.
He served on the American Osteopathic Board of Neuromusculoskeletal Medicine and Osteopathic Manipulative Medicine, as well as the American Academy of Osteopathy Board of Governors and Education Committee. Devine also serves as the Osteopathic representative to the Arizona Medicare Carrier Advisory Committee and serves the Health Services Advisory Group (HSAG) as a case investigation and review consultant for Osteopathic Manipulative Medicine.
