The student and faculty advisor initially develop an informal arrangement for the supervision of the student’s research, at the latest during the spring semester of the student’s junior year.
This arrangement becomes formalized when the student registers for 3 credits of Psychology 499Y for Honors Thesis research (Fall) and then continues with 3 credits of Psychology 499T for Honors Thesis completion (Spring); registration forms are available on the Commonwealth Honors College website.
The PSYCH HN-CCDEPT Program consists of a track within the psychology department in which students take honors-level courses and complete an independent piece of research during the senior year (the Honors Thesis).

Commonwealth Honors College has available Honors Research Grants for funding of up to 00 (per semester) for student projects.The Psychology Thesis Program provides advanced undergraduate students with an opportunity to conduct an independent research project under the supervision of a faculty member, culminating in a written thesis.Students enrolled in the thesis program (PSY400Y) also attend weekly meetings to discuss: (a) general topics important to conducting research; (b) student research proposals; and (c) the outcomes of research projects.Under some circumstances, and only with special permission, a student who has an outstanding academic record but who has not completed all of the prerequisites may be permitted to complete the prerequisites concurrently with the thesis course.Students will be notified if they have been selected to enrol in this course by early June 2019.In this section, the expectations for students and faculty advisors in this process are described.The independent research that forms the basis for the student’s Honors Thesis is typically begun in the second semester of the student’s junior year (or earlier).Independent research supervised by individual faculty members.Seminars on general topics relevant to the conduct of independent research, student research proposals, and the presentation of findings.Admission Interested students due to enter their fourth (or final) year in the next academic year can apply to the department directly.Admission is based on academic merit, the completion of PSY202H (or equivalent), at least 0.5 in advanced laboratory or research courses in Psychology at the 300 or 400 level.
